    Meet Our Registered Acupuncturist

    • "I use acupuncture for women’s health because I’ve lived the frustration of hormonal imbalance, painful cycles, and a deeply dysregulated nervous system. And I’ve personally felt and experienced how acupuncture can fill the gap in modern women’s healthcare. This work is personal, and it’s powerful."

    Acupuncture FAQ
    • What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a service that combines thousands of years of use with modern research-backed evidence. During your session, your Registered Acupuncturist will address your concerns and create a plan of action for key target points on your body. Thin needles are then inserted gently into the skin at these key points. These needles interact with the fascial network to alter our brain chemistry and stimulate internal responses. This can regulate hormones, like cortisol, releasing pain-relieving endorphins, increasing circulation, reducing inflammation and more.
    • Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Generally no! Most individuals will feel little to no pain and will instead feel a mild tingling, dull ache and small prick when the needle is inserted.

After the session you may have temporary soreness, slight bruising or mild ache but typically stop after 24 hours.

Our Registered Acupuncturists are trained to help you should any discomfort happen.

    • What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?

TCM combines 3 main interventions for healing through acupuncture, herbal remedies, and cupping massage.  The foundation of TMC teachings is rooted in a holistic approach to understanding how the body connects and responds to the environment around it. Rather than just treating symptoms, TMC views the body as interconnected and looks at the whole to restore balance in the body.
In comparison to western medicine, TCM looks at restoring balance and treating the root cause of symptoms across body systems. Western medicine often targets specific isolated symptoms or diseases. Both can complement each other when coordinated appropriately.
    • How does acupuncture work

Acupuncture stimulates nerve endings, muscles, and connective tissue, which sends signals to the brain to release chemicals that promote healing, reduce pain, and balance bodily systems. Traditional practitioners view this as restoring the flow of Qi along meridians.

    • What can acupuncture help support?

Acupuncture has been used for a wide range of conditions including:

      • Pain (back, neck, headache, etc.)
      • Stress, anxiety, and insomnia
      • Digestive issues
      • Hormonal imbalances and menstrual concerns
      • Immune support and general wellness
    • Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a licensed professional using sterile, single-use needles. Minor side effects can include temporary soreness or slight bruising.

Communicate with your practitioner if you have concerns.

    • How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on the condition:

      • Acute issues may respond in a few treatments
      • Chronic or complex conditions often require ongoing care

Your practitioner can tailor a plan based on your goals and progress

    • What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing to allow easy access to acupuncture points. For some treatments, you may be asked to roll up sleeves or pant legs.

    • How should I prepare for treatment?

Eat a light meal a short time before your session, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol or strenuous exercise right before and after treatment.

    • What happens during my first acupuncture session?

Your practitioner will take a comprehensive health history, ask about your symptoms, and may check your pulse and tongue to evaluate your overall balance. Needles will be placed for a period of time while you relax.

    • Can children or pregnant people receive acupuncture?

Yes, acupuncture can be safe and beneficial for many ages, including during pregnancy, but it should always be done by a trained practitioner familiar with these populations.

    • Will my insurance cover acupuncture?

Insurance coverage varies depending on your plan and provider. Check with your insurer for specifics. Fortify will provide a receipt for insurance reimbursement.

    • How should I feel after an acupuncture session?

Many people experience deep relaxation, reduced pain, improved sleep, and a sense of balance, we call it an “acu-high”. Occasionally there may be temporary fatigue or emotional release — both are normal responses.
