Questions about Naturopathic Medicine?
Let's Talk!

    Naturopathic
    Medicine

    At Fortify

Naturopathic Doctors work with the innate healing capacity of the body to treat the underlying causes of disease. At Fortify, our Naturopathic Doctors offer patient-centred, evidence-based, naturally-focused healthcare for people throughout Manitoba.

Health conditions, especially chronic conditions, often find their origins in diet, lifestyle habits, life events, environment, and so much more. Although symptoms are incredibly important to guide correct diagnosis and treatment, Naturopathic Doctors focus on locating and addressing the fundamental cause(s) of a condition, rather than simply alleviating symptoms. Treating the causes of disease, rather than the expressions of disease, is a more effective and enduring approach to healthcare. That is the foundational principle of Naturopathic Medicine: to help our biological systems return to a state of natural homeostasis.

    PRINCIPLES OF NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE
    • Dedicated Time

Our Naturopathic Doctors dedicate the time to understanding your medical history, lifestyle, and passions and goals. They combine that compassion with diagnostic testing that other doctor’s don’t run, getting you in-depth information about your health and body.
    • Uncovering the
      Root Cause

In order to target the root causes of symptoms and disease, we blend functional medicine alongside lifestyle changes, nutrition, supplements, and much more.
    • Continued Care
      and Support

Our doctors support their patients every step of the way. We know and understand the frustrations of waiting weeks or months to see a doctor. We provide a wide array of visit options so you will have access to your Naturopathic Doctor when you need the support you deserve.
FORTIFY'S NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE PATHWAY TO OPTIMAL HEALTH

    1. Complimentary Meet and Greet

This complimentary 10-15 minute consultation provides the perfect entry point into care. During this consultation we will discover what your health goals are, what type of care you can expect from your naturopathic doctor, and ensure you have found the right partner to guide you on your health care journey.

    2. Initial Consultation

This first 60 minute appointment sets the stage for a comprehensive understanding of your health history and current symptoms of concern. During this appointment your Naturopathic Doctor will often make recommendations for further testing to shed light on the reasons for your current health concerns and any underlying issues that have yet to surface. During this appointment your Naturopathic Doctor will also prescribe the first steps of your personalized treatment protocol involving diet, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations.

    3. Diagnostics

During your initial consultation your Naturopathic Doctor may provide you with recommended diagnostic tests to confirm and further explore the root cause of your health concerns. This can include blood tests, and advanced function testing.

    4. Treatment Plan Implementation

During subsequent visits (30-60 mins), your Naturopathic Doctor will walk you through the results of your diagnostic tests and educate you on what they mean and how to move forward. In this appointment the rest of your personalized plan will be delivered to you, as well as a plan to monitor and adjust your care plan, based on your progress. Care plans may include periodic 15 min check-in phone calls, supplementation regimen, IV Nutrient Therapy, Vitamin Injections, etc.

    5. Continued Care

During this stage of your care with your Naturopathic Doctor, you will be supported with your ongoing health goals, prevent recurrence of your previous health concerns, and begin to focus on optimizing your quality of life as you move through the stages of aging. This part of your care may include referrals to other health care practitioners  —dieticians, massage therapy, therapists, etc.— to help diversify your physical and mental health care, and to expand your health care team.

Frequently Asked Question About Naturopathic Medicine
    • Will my Naturopathic Doctor be able to order lab work, specialty tests, request past files and review past testing prior to or after my Initial Assessment?

Prior to your Initial Assessment, you will be requested to bring the names and dosages of current medications and natural health products (only required if you hadn’t listed them on your online intake form) and relevant blood work, diagnostic imaging, or specialist reports. If you are unable to bring these reports with you to your first appointment, an authorized Release of Records can be sent on your behalf to obtain them, and if further lab work is required that will be discussed within the first appointment.

Our goal at Fortify is to work together to create comprehensive care plans across providers ensuring communication with your family physician and any other healthcare providers is open and congruent.

    • After my initial appointment with my Naturopathic Doctor, how do I refill my prescription supplements?

    • Can one of Fortify Wellness’ Naturopathic Doctor's be my primary care physician?

Naturopathic Medicine uses a number of modalities, including clinical nutrition, botanical medicine and acupuncture to build individualized, comprehensive care for patients. Our Naturopathic Doctors are trained in primary care specialties like family medicine and internal medicine, however, we recommend our guests maintain a primary care physician for things like vaccinations and strep or flu testing, as these are procedures we do not perform.

Your Naturopathic Doctor will remind you of important age-related screenings you should get like colonoscopies or mammograms.

In the unforeseeable event, you have a medical emergency, we recommend that you visit urgent care at your local hospital.
